Another July pleasure: local corn

Young boy husking corn on the cob
Supper last night included local corn, as well as green beans and kale from our own garden. This time of year is the very best for involving my younger son in preparing food. The rest of the year he majors in flipping pancakes and dabbling in bread making, but he can really get his teeth into corn shucking, bean picking and strawberry slicing. Yesterday he happily crawled into one of our garden cages and harvested a bunch of kale for me. I have to concur that food prep is somehow most satisfying when it's straight from the garden.
